    The former Leisure Arts building on Ranch Drive has been vacant and on the market for several years. However, a grass roots campaign by parents and education advocates has helped to change that. The building was recently purchased by the Little Rock School District and in August 2016 will be the first public middle school west of Interstate 430, in what most people consider "West Little Rock."

    Leisure Arts, an Arkansas company, is a leading publisher of lifestyle and instruction craft publications. The company moved to Maumelle leaving its former headquarters, a sleek modern building with a very unique interior design, empty.

    The Little Rock School District, the largest in the state with over 24,000 students, expects to educate 300+ 6th graders at the location beginning in August 2016.

    Southwest High School, a brand new, state-of-the-art high school, is set to open in the fall of 2020 and will combine student populations from J.A. Fair and McClellan high schools, totaling at around 2,000 students. The school will cover 400,000 square feet of academic and athletic space. Southwest High School will pursue a rigorous project-based learning, therefore it will offer larger classrooms, shared collaboration spaces, and virtual classroom capabilities.
